During my mother’s 1985 pregnancy, it was found I had an irregular heart beat, which after further testing found I had a 3rd degree congenital heart block caused by the anti-ro antibodies carried by her due to Lupus Erythematosus (Lupus). On September 20, 1985, I was born prematurely via c-section at University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore, MD. I was immediately put under the care of Pediatric Cardiologist, Dr. Joel Brenner, M.D.; while my mother was put under the care of Rheumatologist, Dr. Marcia Schmidt, M.D., for systemic and discoid Lupus. At the age of 16 months, I had a pacemaker placed in my stomach, attached to my heart, in order for my heart to beat normally, as my own heartbeat was only in the 40s. Read More....
